Can you keep chickens in Springfield Township (Burlington), NJ?

The rules at a glance

Good to know

• § 215-96 allows agriculture and usual farm buildings without restriction in all zones, except as the article provides.
• Manure storage must be at least 50 feet from property lines and 100 feet from an existing dwelling.
• § 215-97D bans farm animals on residential lots under 1 acre. It names horses, cattle, sheep, goats and other livestock, and it does not say whether poultry count.

What about ducks?

Ducks follow the same rule as chickens. Farm uses are allowed in every zone, and parcels under 10 acres can keep up to 100 fowl per 40,000 square feet, with poultry shelters at least 50 feet from every property line.

§ 215-97A; § 215-134: "The keeping or raising of poultry on parcels of land less than 10 acres in area shall be limited to 100 fowl per 40,000 square feet." Duck coops we build.
