Good to know

• Chapter 62 was adopted 10-1-2025 by Ordinance 2025-22 and covers residential lots under 1 acre.
• Lots of 1 acre or more are handled under Chapter 41, where 20 chickens count as one livestock unit and one unit is allowed on at least 1 acre.
• Coop must sit in the rear yard, may not exceed 36 square feet or 6 feet in height, and one coop and run is allowed per property.
• Selling eggs or other chicken by-products is prohibited, as is slaughtering on the property.

What about ducks?

Only on lots of an acre or more. Florence's backyard program covers hens only; ducks fall under its livestock rules, where 10 ducks count as one livestock unit and one unit needs at least one acre with a pen and roofed shelter.
