Our story

A family business that started in our own backyard

Triano Farms is a family-run New Jersey business, owned and run by Joe Triano. We design and build custom chicken coops, runs, sheds, and animal enclosures on-site across the state, out of Branchville in Sussex County.

Triano Farms started with our own family. We got into chickens the way a lot of people do, raising our own since 2021, though we'd dreamed about farming long before that. We wanted them around, wanted fresh eggs, and wanted to build something on our property our family could be part of.

When it came time for another coop, back in 2023, I decided to build one myself. The store-bought coops we'd had were cheap, flimsy, and made chicken tending more of a chore. I wanted ours to be strong, safe for the birds, less work to keep up, and something that actually looked good in the yard. I ended up enjoying the build far more than I expected.

That first coop turned into an idea. There was something missing from every store near me: a sturdy coop actually built around what raising chickens takes. A coop is more than a box that keeps birds in. They need space, cleanliness, and most of all an environment that is safe and stress-free. That is really how this business started.

Over time it grew from a backyard project into something our whole family is proud of. My wife and our three kids are a big part of why I keep pushing it forward. I want to build something that supports our family, gives us more time together, and that my kids can look back on and say they watched grow from the beginning.

Today we build custom chicken coops, runs, sheds, and animal enclosures for families across New Jersey. We still approach every build the way I approached that first one in our own backyard: build it right, make it practical, make it last, and make sure the customer is happy to see it on their property every day. We are a small family business, and I want to keep that feeling no matter how much Triano Farms grows.

We don't just build coops, we live it

On our own place we tend 15 to 20 chickens, around 10 rabbits, and about 20 quail. Unlike most coop sellers, we actually keep animals every day, so the guidance you get, from breeds to ventilation to keeping predators out, comes from real experience. (Our biggest struggle? Figuring out what to do with a dozen eggs a day.)

What goes into every build

Real materials, not a flat-pack box

We don't sell kits and we don't drop a box in your yard to assemble. About 80% of the build happens in our shop, then we assemble it on your property like a modular home. Here is what that's made of.

  • Metal roof paneling, engineered for a 40–50 psf snow and wind load
  • ½" PVC-coated hardware cloth on every window and run — never chicken wire
  • Stainless steel and aluminum hardware that won't rust
  • Kiln-dried lumber, pressure-treated only where it meets the ground
  • Painted LP-board floor that resists mold and insects
  • Top-tier Sherwin-Williams paints and low-VOC water-based stains
  • An automatic door on every coop, standard

Local, insured, and accountable

We build throughout New Jersey, with our deepest presence in the northwest. Triano Farms is insured, and owner Joe Triano is an active member of BNI Top Tier, part of how we stay connected and accountable in the local business community. Want proof?
