Good to know

• Right to farm protection covers the A-1, R-4 and R-5 zones plus the Pinelands P-A and P-R4 zones, and does not extend to the R-1, R-2, R-3 or business and industrial zones.
• Birds may not be bred for commercial purposes on these three acre properties.
• A shelter for the animals may be no larger than 50% of the square footage of the house on the lot.
• The owner or keeper must live on the same lot or a lot next to it, and the animals must be fenced.

What about ducks?

Ducks follow the same rule as chickens. Outside the A-1 and Pinelands agricultural zones, farm animals including poultry need at least three acres, capped at 25 chickens or other poultry (10 in the R-4 and R-5 zones).
