• The article was amended 5-9-2024 by Ord. No. 2024-19, which added the 12-foot rule and the rooster ban.
• Birds must stay in a pen, coop, yard or enclosure that stops them escaping or running at large.
• The wording sets a permit band of no less than 4 and no more than 12 birds, so it is not clear on its face whether 3 or fewer hens need a permit. Ask the Board of Health.
• § 731-5 exempts stores commercially engaged in selling fowl and poultry.

What about ducks?

Only with a Board of Health permit. Red Bank's poultry rule names ducks and drakes along with chickens, so the same permit for 4 to 12 birds and 12-foot setback from houses apply.

§ 731-3: "No chicken, hen, rooster ... pigeon, duck, drake, goose, gander, guinea hen, guinea rooster and no other fowl or poultry ... shall be kept or maintained inside of or within 12 feet of any house" Duck coops we build.
