Can you keep chickens in Borough of Maywood, NJ?

Good to know

• Section 333-4B bans keeping hens only where the purpose is breeding or selling, so keeping a few hens for eggs is not covered by that ban.
• Section 333-4C bans keeping, raising, breeding or selling roosters anywhere in the Borough.
• Sheep and goats are also banned, as are skunks, mink and foxes.
• Section 333-6 bans running a business that slaughters or dresses poultry in the Borough. The 25-foot setback in Section 333-2 applies to dog enclosures, not chicken coops.
• The code bans hens kept for breeding or selling; it does not separately say hens kept for your own eggs are allowed, so confirm with the borough before building.

What about ducks?

Unclear. Maywood's animal rule mentions only chicken hens and roosters, and says nothing about ducks. Ask the Board of Health first.
