Can you keep chickens in Borough of South Bound Brook, NJ?

Good to know

• Birds must be kept in a house or coop with an enclosed run and may not fly or run at large.
• Flocks of more than 25 need 2 acres, unless kept at least 300 feet from any other dwelling or occupied building.
• Keeping fowl for commercial purposes needs a license. A separate $100 yearly license in § 5-3.3 covers farm, domestic and wild animals; the code does not say whether it applies to hens.
• Violations carry a penalty of $250 to $1,250 per day.

What about ducks?

Only on larger lots. South Bound Brook's rule names ducks with chickens: any flock needs at least 1 acre (2 acres for more than 25 birds), with the coop and run at least 100 feet from doors or windows of occupied buildings.
