What Happens on Build Day

Triano Farms ·

On build day, we bring the sections of your coop that we already built in our shop, carry them to the spot, and assemble them on your property, usually in a day or two. About 80% of the work is done before we ever pull into your driveway.

Here is what to expect, from before we arrive to when we drive away.

Before build day

By the time we show up, your coop has been designed, approved, and mostly built. After you order, we finalize the design, often with a 3D rendering for you to approve. Then we prebuild about 80% of the coop in our shop, with premium materials and precision craftsmanship.

Before we build, we walk the access plan with you. That covers how we will get the sections from the driveway to the spot where the coop is going, and anything we need to work around.

The site itself should be ready. A level foundation is key, and site prep can be done by us or by you. If the ground is only a little uneven, we add blocks to reach grade. We handle the easier prep jobs ourselves, and for bigger areas that need grading or clearing we bring in a local site-prep contractor. Setting a coop on blocks does not affect security, since the predator skirt still provides full protection.

Fenced yards and tight access

This is where building in sections really pays off. A fully pre-built coop or shed has to be trucked in and craned or rolled to its spot as one finished piece. That rules out a lot of real backyards.

We do not need that. We deliver the sections and carry them to where the coop will stand, then assemble in place. We can bring pieces through a standard gate and put the coop together inside a fenced yard. Tight side yards, slopes, and hard-to-reach lots are usually workable too. See built on-site for more on how that works.

During the build

On-site work is usually one day, or two for larger builds. We put the sections together like a modular home, set everything level, and lay the 2-foot predator skirt around the perimeter.

We exercise reasonable care while we work on your property. Because we assemble on-site rather than dropping off a finished box, equipment and materials do have to come across your yard. You may see:

  • Minor lawn disturbance
  • Tire marks
  • Some soil compaction
  • A little landscape disruption near where we build and deliver

There is no oversized finished structure being dragged across your grass, but it is still a building project. We leave things as clean as we can.

After we leave

A few things to know once the coop is standing:

  • The skirt. Most customers do their own landscaping over the skirt. Rock gardens and mulch beds are a popular look, and the protection is the same buried or not.
  • The warranty. Every build carries a 1-year workmanship warranty from the date of installation. If something fails in that first year because of how we built it, we come back and make it right. The parts we install, like the metal roof, latches, and the automatic door, carry their own manufacturer warranties.
  • Moving in. Once it is up, your flock can move in. If you are bringing chicks out of a brooder, wait until they are fully feathered, usually around five to six weeks. See when can chicks go outside.

Replacing an old coop?

If there is an old or failed coop in the way, we remove it and replace it with one of ours. If your run is still solid, we can often retrofit the new coop right into it. See replacing an old coop.

Good to know

Common questions

Do you need truck access to the exact spot?

No. We carry the sections to where the coop will sit and assemble it in place.

Can you build inside a fenced yard?

Yes. The sections come through a standard gate, and the coop goes together inside the fence.

Will my lawn be damaged?

You may see minor lawn disturbance, tire marks, or some soil compaction where we work and deliver. We will talk through the access plan with you first and leave things as clean as we can.
