Prefab vs. built-on-site chicken coop
A prefab or kit coop is cheaper up front but is usually thin plywood and chicken wire that fails within a season or two, especially against predators. A coop built on-site from real lumber, with hardware cloth and a proper predator skirt, costs more but lasts years and actually keeps a flock safe. For birds you plan to keep, built-on-site is the better long-term value.

When a prefab makes sense
A kit can be fine for a couple of birds in a low-predator spot, or as a short-term starter you expect to replace. If you're testing whether chickens are for you, it lowers the risk.
When built-on-site wins
